
Hanks His next role, astronaut and commander Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - was his first time reuniting with Ron Howard. The film's performances , as well as Kevin Bacon's portrayal were favorable by the critics. The film also received nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks later starred as Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). In the following year when he directed his debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) which chronicles the decline and rise of a 60s-era music group. He also played the role of a music producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine called his performance "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanks role in the film earned his place in the most popular romantic comedy stars of his time.
